The mission of MULXIPLY — pronounced “multiply” is to invest in indigenous, artisanal businesses and organizations who collaborate with us to produce our modern designs. By utilizing age-old techniques, we are keeping heritage handicraft alive and providing local employment in societies where those with little or no education are at risk of being trafficked or enslaved abroad as migrant or domestic workers. We partner with in-country artisan groups that mirror this mission because they love and understand their country far more than we ever can. We are humbled by their expertise and willingness to take on our designs. Tanja Cesh is the founder and creative director of MULXIPLY. Having spent close to 20 years in the fashion and design world, she shifted her efforts toward ethical fashion. MULXIPLY was born in 2012 after completing extensive research in Southeast Asia on raw materials, indigenous handcraft, and the issues of modern day slavery seen in garment factories and “manpower schemes” plaguing the region. The result being a complete commitment to continually creating dignified jobs in the handicraft sector through designing pieces reflective of contemporary market trends. MULXIPLY is a “people first” company. Each of our pieces is uniquely handmade by an artist or craftsmen whose life is made better by life-giving employment. Our motto is: “Fashion x Fairness = Opportunity”. We call it the “multiply effect”.
