Mesquite & Merlot

Exquisitely crafted from South Texas mesquite, the stems and bases of Paul Judkins' wine glasses are handmade through a meticulous process. He starts with a chainsaw, personally selecting and harvesting century-old mesquite trees slated to be cleared for farmland. This richly grained wood is seasoned, and then turned on a lathe using a custom-made bit to produce the elegant form that supports the glass. Judkins says, "I feel that through my work, these venerable old giants live on in another form." These one-of-a-kind glasses produced through this labor of love make distinctive additions to your table and unforgettable gifts for any occasion. Handmade in San Antonio, Texas.

“The knowledge that there is a beautiful finished piece quietly waiting for me to release it from a rough chunk of wood provides me all the motivation I need.”

Paul W. Judkins has been passionate about woodturning for the past 25 years. With the support of his wonderful wife, he’s been able to turn this passion into a career. Over the years, he has been fortunate enough to work with many of the world’s foremost woodworkers. That experience, along with his wife’s keen eye for new ideas, has been the driving force behind his creation of new products and designs.

Paul resides in South Texas, a perfect environment for mesquite trees to grow to gigantic proportions—some are over 100 years old. Working mostly in mesquite, he harvests trees slated for destruction from areas being cleared for construction or agricultural use.

Everyone Loved Them

Used initially for a special dinner with neighbors on the deck. They were a big hit with everyone, especially the hand-turned mesquite as handles.
