In the Zone

It could be the clock in the newsroom of the Daily Planet, or a streamlined timepiece gracing a midcentury train station. This four-faced clock is just the ticket for far-flung families to track the time from coast to coast. Just set your home time zone by reversing the clock hands to white in one quadrant, and then check the hour at a glance in the other three time zones of the continental US. The laser-cut Baltic birch plywood face with streamlined corners adds a touch of retro romance to this thoughtfully functional design. Hang on your office or mission control wall with two sturdy metal hangers attached to the back. Made in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Originally from Maine, Mike relocated to Virginia to escape the cold of the Northeast. With a background in graphic design and penchant for automotive restoration he is a natural fit to Cardboard Safari’s hands on design process. During his youth he assisted his father in the construction of a number of wood boats so Mike particularly enjoys designs that have a technical as well as an artistic element. During his leisure time Mike enjoys exploring the twisting back roads of central Virginia in his vintage convertible or sampling the variety of local craft beers.

Comments about UncommonGoods Near and Far Time Zone Clock:

I asked for this for Christmas. My daughter purchased it for me. My company works in all the continental time zones of the U.S., so being able to see all at a glance would have been perfect. The directions for assembly were not very clear. For the time zone where you live, you were given the option to use the white hands and whether or not you wanted to use the second hand. When doing the assembly, you could not assemble the clock with the white hands. The design didn't work. And you didn't have a choice whether or not to use the second hand because there was no additional nut in the kit to take the place of it. So....no way to just glance and see my home time zone, and in assembly with the second hand, the mechanism will not secure. The hour hand stays at 6:00 all the time because there is no way to tighten down the mechanism. It was a nice idea, but there are enough things lacking with this purchase that I would not recommend. I don't want to return it because it was a gift from my daughter. So there you have it: three out of four time zones work. If I want to know what time it is in my zone, I either have to calculate it (whole reason for getting the clock in the first place), or look at my laptop. Can't use the white hands as stated in the design because you can't get the second hand on at all. Time is never right. My husband is trying to fix. He had to adjust the tightness of the other clock mechanisms before he hung it up because they were all loose to the display.

Comments about UncommonGoods Near and Far Time Zone Clock:

I like this clock for it's uniqueness but it is a bit basic in terms of materials. It's flimsy but still looks good hanging on the wall in my office. I would order it again
