Salt-making siblings Nancy Bruns Salt-making siblings Nancy Bruns and Lewis Payne are seventh-generation West Virginia entrepreneurs. “Our ancestors first drilled for brine using a hollowed-out tree trunk, and established our family farm along the Kanawha River,” says Nancy, a former chef. Today, Nancy and Lewis’s salt works is on the same riverside spot. The pristine brine that’s the source of their gourmet salts is evaporated with solar power. “Our salt is completely organic and naturally derived,” she says. “We are family owned, and we believe that treating the earth and our environment with care will allow our family and yours to live off the land for many years to come."
