It's estimated that hundreds of thousands of rape kits currently sit untested in police departments and crime lab storage facilities. When our Better to Give partner, RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), made us aware of this statistic, we knew we had to help combat this backlog and bring justice on behalf of victims. To test and track these kits—which provide DNA information that can link unknown assailants, identify serial offenders, and discredit suspects—further funding is needed. Take time to learn more about the issue, explore RAINN's additional advocacy opportunities, and email your representatives.
RAINN has been our Better to Give partner since 2010. When we consider the statistics related to sexual abuse, it's clear that each one of us is either close to someone who has been a victim of sexual violence, or has been the victim. It's important that victims understand they are not responsible for what has happened to them, and in supporting RAINN, we help them provide a safe place to come forward and start to heal. Additionally, they carry out programs to prevent sexual violence and advocate for victims so that their perpetrators are brought to justice.
